Tecumseh 2  vs  Dexter 1

Goals:  Nick Giovannone, Owen Swan
Assist:  Owen Swan
Saves:  Mendez 11
This was probably the biggest game for us this year.  We went in to Dexter with a #10 rank, 1st place in the SEC and a 13-1-1 record to play Dexter ranked #12, 2nd place in the SEC and a 11-3-1 record.
The first half started with Dexter possessing very well and giving us fits as we tried to start up an attack.  They really stepped into us as soon as the ball was on our foot and we didn’t respond well initially. After about 15 minutes we began applying a lot of pressure in our offensive end and had several good looks.  Dexter’s keeper made a fantastic fingertip save on Josh Nowak’s shot to the far post and our forwards, Jonny Montoya, Konner Linn and Jacob Soules all put a lot of pressure on Dexter’s backline.  The half ended 0-0.
In the second half, both teams battled hard and it was Dexter that scored first on a shot that hit the bottom of the crossbar, bounced down and was deflected in.  “That was a big moment for this team.  That was only the second time all season that we had been behind and what was to come shows exactly what these guys are made of.”
Just a few minutes later, we really stormed back and pressured hard earning a free kick.  Owen Swan sent a ball in that Nick Giovannone redirected into the back of the net to tie things up.  With the momentum on our side, we continued to control play for about a 10 minute period. Were were given three corner kicks in the time period and the third one was the charm as Owen Swan bent it into the net off the corner kick to give us a 2-1 lead.  The next 22 minutes saw both teams playing good soccer.  In what was one of several big plays, Dexter drilled a shot heading to the left post and seemed like it was going in but Devin Mendez made a save flying about five feet in the air, parallel to the ground.
“Swan’s goal was beautiful but it Dillon Donaghy must get credit for doing the grunt work, making it tough for the Dexter Keeper to get to the ball.”  “And for Mendez’s save, the best word to describe it was Breathtaking… I just don’t know how he got to that ball.”
We are now 14-1-1 overall and 6-0-0 in the SEC.  The win gives us a two game lead over Dexter and Chelsea.
